Large Antique Classical Bronze Figureby Marylebone Antiques
Large Antique Classical Bronze Figure
This antique classical bronze figure is quite large, well defined in more ways than one & has a lovely weathered look. I’m not sure if one of the legs has been repaired or it’s just the way it was made, but there are some old rivets showing.
We think it’s mean’t to be Bacchus the Greek god of wine. I would date it to around the early 1800’s.
Height – 21.5″, 55cm
Width – 16″, 40 cm

Vintage French sign ‘Postiches’by Aeology
Vintage French sign ‘Postiches’
Unusual and Decorative cut-out Metal Sign from France- ‘POSTICHES D’ART’ !
Postiches has two meanings in French, ‘fakes’ but also ‘wigs’ or ‘hairpieces’. So the liklihood is the shop the sign came from a shop that sold Art Reproductions – but possible also that it could have sold Artistic Hairpieces or Wigs. ?
The iron sign, which was made by an artisan metalworker or blacksmith, has two metal hook-eyes set towards either end so that the sign can be conveniently hung. from hooks above it.
Whatever, the actual trade was, this is a very pleasing and decorative sign with interestingly patinated metal and light showing through the attractive cut out lettering.
Measures 74 inches long.
In good sturdy condition.
