17th Century Painted Sacristi Cabinet from Spainby Aeology
17th Century Painted Sacristi Cabinet from Spain
Outstandingly beautiful ‘Reliquary’ or Sacristi Cupboard/Cabinet from Spain. Dating from the late 17th- early 18th century , the pine and fruitwood cabinet’s main feature are the fabulously hand- painted doors designed to be seen from the outside. In the outer remains of very old paint, the cabinet might originally have displayed a reliquary or processional figure such as a saint or virgin. The inside of the cabinet also has painted or stencilled motifs and has old shelf supports still attached so that possibly at another time it was also used more as a cupboard in a church for storing the priests’ vestments etc.
The primary photo shows a female figure from my own collection to give an example of the display potential..
Measures 52 inches high. x 21 wide x 16 deep
Naive Folk-Art Mirror from Franceby Aeology
Naive Folk-Art Mirror from France
An unusual carved wooden Frame with added mirror and date ‘1886’. Hand-carved with central flower motif , intricate vine with hanging buches of grapes , songbird etc and initials EG and GG, this is a really beautiful on-off ‘naive’ artwork by an unknown ‘whittler’ in late 19th century France. The antique style mirror glass has been added by myself (It could therefore have been carved originally as a frame for a picture- markings on the reverse indicating something once having been attached behind central display).
In good condition for its age, there are the visible vertical joins above the central display and beneath it to the right of the bird carving. The wood itself is almost an inch in thickness.
Measures 23 inches high x 16 wide.

Vintage Chocolate Machine from a French Cafeby Aeology
Vintage Chocolate Machine from a French Cafe
Early 20th Century Silver plated ‘Chocolatiere’ – a Chocolate Making Machine coming from an old café or restaurant in France. In early Art-Deco style the machine dismantles into three components,- the 3 legged base with side holes which has a copper pipe through it which would have carried hot water to heat the chocolate, the main middle unit with internal white china cylinder to hold the hot chocolate which was dispensed through the front tap , and a domed lid surmounted with black porcelain knob. An interesting and decorative café fitting from a past era.
Measures 24 inches tall x 8.5 diameter with 4 inch front spout with tap.
Crazy Patented Tailor Dummy from Italyby Aeology
Crazy Patented Tailor Dummy from Italy
A Quirky Vintage Tailor's Mannequin or Dummy from Italy with patent expandable dimensions.
The body is made of an early moulded plastic set together in different expanding sections allowing the measurements of shoulders waist and hips to increase and decrease. The decorative leather strapwork holds the expanding torso together. The metal breasts are set independently of the body on a push/pull mechanism allowing increase in the bosom measurement.
The unusual dummy also has a plaque denoting clothing measurements fixed on the front of the neck and the whole body is mounted on an adjustable metal stand.
Circa 1930-1960 with adjustable height.
Old Pine Shelfrack from French Pastry Shopby Aeology
Old Pine Shelfrack from French Pastry Shop
Nice early Pine Shelfrack- Backfitting which came from a Bakers/Pastryshop (Boulangerie/Patisserie) in my local village in Languedoc , southern France. Originally attached to the shop’s wall with a back counter or table underneath it, the lowest shelf has a shaped central hole to allow a tall object to project upward while standing on the counter underneath. See lower photo where the shelf rack is fancifully dressed with various objects from my kitchen.
Measures 52 inches tall x 53 wide x 8.5 deep. Circa 1920-1935
Bronze Menu Sign from French Restaurantby Aeology
Bronze Menu Sign from French Restaurant
An unusual Menu sign from a Restaurant in Paris , France. Made in Bronze, and with reclining maidens and trumpeting cherubs shown in relief, the metal sign probably had a wooden back board with a door which allowed the menu of the day to be inserted. What remains is an interesting and decorative relic of 19th century gastronomy !
Measures 27 inches high x 16 wide. Circa 1865-1895. In reasonable worn condition.
Church Steeple Clock Face from Normandyby Aeology
Church Steeple Clock Face from Normandy
Interesting old Tower Clock Face from a Church Steeple in Normandy in northern France, with years of weathering. The painted metal Clock Face has been converted to an electric movement at some recent time, but still retains the original metal hands. The wooden surround is also original.
The movement is probably not working but the clock can now easily be fitted with a modern electric movement so that it would work.
Measures 40 inches diameter. Circa 1850-1880
Vintage ‘Riviera’ Bongo Drumsby Aeology
Vintage ‘Riviera’ Bongo Drums
Decorative and Fun Set of hand-decorated wooden Bongo Drums . I found these in the south of France in a town on the ‘Riviera’.
A relic of the 1940s-1950s, days of the Afro-Cuban Jazz music craze and later Salsa, I think this set may have originated from Cuba. The 3 drums are beautifully crafted in wood and the decorations are hand painted. The 2 larger drums are set together on a metal stand measuring 39 inches high x 31 wide. The small drum now sits separately, without the metal rod that originally clamped it in front of the larger two drums.
Circa 1948-1960. In very good condition with a small amount of wear. The animal hide drum tops are virtually perfect.

Circa 1925-1950. Measures 34 inches wide x 27 high.
Naive Oil Painting of a Young Girlby Aeology
Naive Oil Painting of a Young Girl
Early 19th century oil painting of a Young Girl . Coming from France , the painting , in vivid colours and well composed is reminiscent of the style of French painter Henri Rousseau, considered a pioneer in primitive art. The little girl bears a striking resemblance to Jeanne Bernard Rousseau, Henri’s grand-daughter. The painting has been recently re-framed in a good quality frame and some flaking of the paint can be seen just above the base.
Measures 26 inches high x 24 wide. Circa 1820-1840
