Coromandel silver Vanity Box retailed by Parkins & Gotto and made by Oliver & Middleton Chapman 1871 This Silver Vanity box is veneered in wonderful exotic Coromandel with brass edging. When opened it reveals an assortment of various shaped glass and silver travelling containers as well as a accoutrements pad all housed in dark blue leather & velvet. All the containers are in good condition with no chips or cracks. The four glass jars in the swing out doors are all hobnail cut with the rest of the boxes being plain cut with star cut bases and all of which have beautifully engraved silver lids hallmarked Oliver & Middleton Chapman, London 1871. The front swings open to reveal two concealed push button sprung loaded drawers, one containing ivory brushes and the other for jewellery. The top has a removable travelling mirror and secret letter compartment.
This wonderful box retailed by Parkins & Gotto has a fully working lock and tasselled key.

Wonderful boulle Sewing Box with engraved brass and red tortoiseshell standing on four brass bottom feet. The interior is lined with blue paper and has a blue silk ruched backed lid. It features a removable tray with several compartments including four superb Ivory thread spools, two thimbles, a perfume bottle, needle books and a tool pad complete with scissors, tweezers and other tools. Underneath this main tray is single storage compartment. David Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square was Writing Box and Case maker to the Royal family and inventor of the patent military travelling case. He also made tea chests, jewellery boxes, sewing boxes and canteen cases of the highest quality. He and his brother Thomas were also known to have worked from James Street and Orange Street. Edwards was known for using the highest quality timbers, intricate inlaid brass, decorative handles and complex mechanisms for secret compartments. He was bought out by Asprey in 1859 and had two royal warrants from King George IV and Queen Victoria.

An Early 19th Century japanned sewing cabinet, with chinoiserie decoration on each side in beautiful warm tones against a contrasting black. Unusual arch shaped top standing on shaped bracket feet. The lid lifts to reveal several compartments for thread spools, pincushion, thimbles and further storage. Once the lid is lifted the double doors can be opened to reveal four drawers with bone handles, each beautifully decorated and lined with matching green paper.

A lovely, outstanding quality fully-fitted mid-19th century French “Palais Royal” combination sewing, writing, vanity and tea box. Veneered in rare mulberry wood with canted top and inlaid engraved mother of pearl to the lid, with a shield-shaped escutcheon . The box opens to reveal a full set of original contents, which include some of the rarest, most outstanding quality pieces we have seen. The shell used is very thick and carved to an extremely high standard, with inset rose gold shields. Its contents comprise a stiletto, penknife, bodkin, needle, two rulers, dip pen, pencil, seal, two inkwells, two cut-glass perfume bottles and a superb scalloped caddy spoon in the form of a shell. To the middle back is a never-seen-before raised silk cushioned block, beautifully embroidered with flowers, which lifts to reveal a tin-lined tea compartment. The lid retains its original mirror and removable silk pad for the interior.
This beautiful rare Palais Royal box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.

The Inside of the door features the famous Army & Navy store plaque. To the front of the box is a silver plaque which reads: Garrison Rifle Meeting, Gibraltar 1896 First officers, Ninth Open, Championships 5th V.B.S.W.B. Rifle competition 1900-1901 Second officers.

Victorian Oak writing box with brass edging for strength and inlaid with triple brass stringing. Brass escutcheon, carrying handles and a secret compartment containing three drawers and having a rare top secret document drawer. The interior features a black and gold tooled writing surface surrounded by brass stringing and detailed corner supports , two silver plated travelling ink wells and a removable tray for holding pens and pencils. The bottom half of the writing surface lifts up to reveal a storage area. Underneath the top half of the writing surface is further storage and a secret hidden compartment containing three drawers. These can be accessed by removing the right hand inkwell, and pressing on the base of the inkwell compartment. Top Secret Document Drawer! To open the secret document drawer on this fabulous antique writing box you need to leave the box in its open position and have already accessed the small three drawers, remove the small secret drawer underneath the nib and inkwell compartment nearest the exterior drawer, then remove the brass pin located on the left hand side of the box which is keeping the large drawer from being pulled open, remove the long drawer. Now pushing your index finger into the void where the small secret drawer has been removed and push or squeeze the side support / drawer guide then the secret document drawer drops from inside the large void where the long drawer was pulled from. To put it back into position just push it all the way back and angle it so it slots into the gap at the very back top and push back up with your fingers allowing it to lock back into position.

Tea Chest veneered in harewood with boxwood edging, and tulipwood & kingwood crossbandings. This chest has an array of fabulous stained sycamore inlays with leaves and flowers, which have been engraved and enhanced with penwork decoration. This continues through to the lid of the chest, with further inlaid symmetrical designs. A penwork leaf pattern runs around the satinwood moulded edge. Each of the four sides has a round satinwood medallion inlaid with symbols related to Greek mythological Gods. The front with the musical instruments, the lyre (harp) and floyera (a wind instrument) that relate to Apollo, also known as the Archer, God of music, arts, truth, healing and prophecy. The panels to the right hand side are inlaid with a cannon, flag spear and shield, and relate to Athena, Goddess of arts, war and wisdom. The back features a quiver and arrow, related to Artemis, Goddess of nature, hunting, and chastity. And finally, the fourth side, a book, callipers and a straight edge, symbolising Hermes, God of travel, commerce and communication. The top has an engraved sterling silver carrying handle, hallmarked London by George Baskerville 1762-1768. Between the handle at the centre of the lid are the inlaid initials of E.W. On the front is a silver key profile. On opening the chest you will see a set of three fabulous Georgian sterling silver caddies, each of plain oblong design with gadrooned borders and moulded plinths. There are two smaller tea caddies (which have detachable domed covers with silver finials and unusual sliding bases, which enable easier cleaning) and the larger caddy is the sugar container, which sits in the middle and has a hinged lid. The silver is adorned with engraved panthers and hallmarked by London Silversmiths John Langford II & John Sebille 1766.
