Antique 19th Century Oil on Canvas Hand-Painted Screen
by InteriorBoutiquesVery Rare and Beautiful 'Oil on Canvas' Hand-Painted Screen probably created in Sicily, in the early 19th century era of the 'Romantic Movement' and depicting various celebrated operatic or theatrical characters. The five panels of the screen are set on individual wooden frames and are joined with hinges.
The vertical sides of the frames extend beneath the bottom edges of the canvas creating 'feet' for the screen. The characters depicted are possibly from or inspired by, the opera's of Monteverde, Rossini & others or from the Italian versions of the plays of Shakespeare.
Created in a studio in Sicily and typical of Sicilian folk art of that period.
Measures 77 inches tall x 96 wide (197 x 245 cms)
Folded measurement is 77 ins x 19 x 5 ( 198 x 49 x 12 cms
