by Marylebone AntiquesThis is an extremely rare drinks cabinet made by the famous cabinet makers Hille of London around the 1920’s period & it’s absolutely top quality throughout. The Hille name is stamped on the slide out tray & their label is on the inside of the cupboard door. Our polisher has tried to keep the colour of the wood as original as possible. The top section is burr walnut, the base is solid walnut & the insides of the cabinet are sycamore. Inside the cabinet, there is a mirrored back, glass shelves & a light fitting, which would need to be re-wired for safety reasons. There is also a pull out tray for serving drinks. The doors have etched brass escutcheons & we have a key. There’s floral carvings all over this cabinet on the top edges & even the drawer handle. The carvings on the base section are incredible & very detailed, so please enlarge all the images to appreciate all the fine details. This cabinet is a very solid well made piece of furniture & quite heavy. Fortunately, it separates into two sections for easier transportation. Hille were top furniture makers & designers who were producing high quality, unique & stylish items from the 1900’s through to the 1970’s. They had a very famous exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1981, which I actually attended. Please google them, if you want any more information. I believe this cabinet would make an excellent investment piece, besides being a very useful piece of furniture.
