Set of Six Art Deco Walnut Cloud Back Dining Chairs
by InteriorBoutiquesA superb set of original Art Deco period cloud back dining chairs in walnut. These were made by Harry and Lou Epstein in England, they date from the 1930’s.
This model is extremely rare and unusual, with a very shapely design to the walnut backs. They are of excellent quality and are very comfortable. The walnut backs have stunning grain patterns and a rich colour tone. There is walnut cross banding around the upholstered seats and solid walnut legs.
We have had these re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent throughout, with some extremely minor old signs of wear beneath the polish here and there. One chair leg has a very slight curve on the front, it is not very noticeable especially when tucked around a table. There is nothing wrong with the frame, nothing is loose, the chair is still very strong and stable.
All the chairs are very sturdy and sound, and we have had them re-upholstered in a high quality cream leatherette.

Deus Ex Machina From The Fieldwork Series by Artist Huw Griffith

From The Fieldwork Series
By Artist Huw GriffithA typical Huw Griffith 'Fieldwork' piece.
Large abstract collage composed of assorted antique papers, graphite pencils and household paint.
Size 134cm H x 134cm W x 4cm D
The inspiration taken from early Ariel photographs and plans
Huw takes inspiration from found objects, such as old letters, ephemera and frames, picked up on his travels and from trawling antiques fairs. He is intensely instinctive by nature and shows scant regard for creative constraints and any artistic rulebook, preferring the peripheries of the art world and the traditional marketplace, he started off selling his work on the street and has worked his way up from there. The son of the late actor, Kenneth Griffith, his aesthetic has one foot in the historical past, and the other in Outsider Art.
Artistry runs in the blood on both sides of his family. Down the maternal line, Griffith is a direct descendent of the showman William Hagar, a Pioneer of British cinema who ‘followed the coal’, bringing handmade films to audiences who had never before seen a moving image. As a nod to his silver screen heritage, Griffith sources vintage film posters for their early colors and Primitive images. On Display and for sale at Marylebone Antiques, 8 Church St, Marylebone, London, NW8 8ED
